Wood Single Hung Window Features

Media Wrench Bolt

There is no difference between our double hung and our single hung window except for the top sash of the single hung is fixed in place. There are advantages to wood single hung windows and we do recommend that configuration. Even though our weather-stripping is extremely efficient, nothing can beat sealing the upper sash in place to eliminate all possibility of air infiltration. Since the single hung window is stationary, it’s easier to get the meeting rails to properly mate and seal when closing, unlike the double hung window where it’s sometimes necessary to hold the upper in place while closing and latching the window.  Since the single hung window is sealed in place after installation, it does not require weather-stripping which makes it slightly less expensive. Like all our sash, our single hung wood windows are available with all the muntin and glass configurations found under our window solutions page.
